Follows Im Schatten (2010)
Twelve years after his escape, professional criminal Trojan returns to Berlin. He sets out to steal a valuable painting from the city. But the meticulously planned heist soon spirals out of control..
That was me in the first 5 minutes when you only get action, no story
I was a bit hesitant to see this film, I thought it would be a dark noir experiment. But I love the actor Misel Maticevic and I had seen Thomas Arslan’s films, but I went to the theater because the first part of this tritych was Im Schatten (In the Shadow). In that moment I was deeply connected to a classic masterpiece, a heist film, but completely different.
My only complaint: there would be more driving with a little less
Overall, not much story, but when it does, it’s perfect and important and gives you the background of the characters or moves the story forward. You expect violence in a heist and of course there is, but it is implied through words and results, the camera doesn’t pan over it, so your imagination can fill in the blanks – all the more terrifying. Much of the driving is done, mostly at night, through a rather dark cityscape, a slightly different aspect of glorious Berlin.
Kudos to Mr
Arslan for this wonderful piece of intense aesthetics that doesn’t miss a single frame. And kudos to the actors who are so good that even if one face is on screen for about 2 minutes, it’s unforgettable. I can’t wait to see the third part of the trilogy I read about in the making.
